Repair Local Sync Database

If you’re seeing the following error message ("Database Error - database disk image is malformed"), it’s possible that the local copy of the sync database has become corrupted. To resolve this, you can download the database again.

Here’s how to do it step-by-step:

Step 1: Back Up Your Notes

Before proceeding, make sure to back up all your notes. This is crucial to avoid losing any data.

1. Locate where your notes are saved. Refer to the help article: Where are my notes saved?(easiest method is to open NotePlan, and in the top right menu, click on "Show in Finder")

2. Copy the entire folder containing your notes to a safe location, such as your Documents folder or your Desktop.

Step 2: Close NotePlan and Delete the Local Database

1. Ensure NotePlan is closed. If it’s already open, quit the app completely.

2. Delete the folder named "co.noteplan.NotePlan3" from your system (we just created a backup of this folder).

Step 3: Restart NotePlan

1. Open NotePlan again.

2. The app will automatically start re-downloading your notes and attachments from the cloud.

Note: If you have a large number of notes with many attachments, this process may take several minutes.

Step 4: Verify and Troubleshoot

  • Once the process is complete, check that all your notes and attachments are restored correctly.
  • If you encounter any issues, contact support for assistance.

    Important Reminder
  • Always ensure you have a backup of your notes before deleting any files. This helps prevent accidental data loss.
